Confirm merchant and customer eligibility
Provider availability depends on the country, business activity, platform and current onboarding rules. Not every customer or order will be eligible. Confirm requirements directly with the provider and avoid presenting approval or instalment availability as unconditional.
Assess unit economics
Compare provider charges, settlement timing and refund treatment with your product margins. A higher order value is not automatically more profit if costs and returns also rise. Establish a baseline and evaluate the payment option against contribution margin, not just checkout clicks.
Explain the offer accurately
Use the provider’s approved wording and integration components. Customers should understand that eligibility and terms apply, and should be able to find the relevant information before committing. Keep promotional messaging consistent across product pages, cart and checkout.
Test returns and exceptions
Walk through a full refund, a partial refund and an order cancellation with the provider’s supported workflow. Document who handles customer questions and how the order-management system reflects the payment state. Review the effect of split shipments if you use them.
Evaluate with real data
Measure approval rate, conversion, order value, fees and returns together. Segment carefully by device and customer type where your data allows. An observed change after launch is not automatically caused by BNPL; campaigns, seasonality and merchandising can affect the same period.
